Geography Field trip 2011

6th year Geography Field Trip

On Wednesday the 5th of October the two Geography classes in 6th year went to Corballis Beach,Donabate,to carry out our field trip.

The aim of the trip was to show the processes of deposition in the formation of  a Beach.
For this to be proven we had to carry out several tasks, some based in the water and others on the sand.

On the morning of the field trip we gathered in the concourse area before loading the bus with our instruments. After a short journey via the port tunnel we disembarked from the bus and were welcomed by strong wind..perfect to give us the attractive wind tousled hair! However this didn't stop us from getting down to work(after all we are girls!)

We measured wave height, counted the waves, showed the presence of longshore drift and drew a sketch to name but a few of the tasks.

We used various instruments to successfully carrry out this field trip which included ranging poles, clinometres and callipers.

After a busy  few hours of gathering information and getting blown away by the wind we went to the local hotel for our lunch.

We are now busy completing our field trip write up which is worth 20% of the Geography paper.
