OECD Programme for International Student Assessment

(PISA)

The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is an internationally standardised assessment that was jointly developed by participating economies and administered to15-year-olds in schools.

Four assessments have so far been carried out (in 2000, 2003, 2006 and 2009). Data for the assessment which took place in 2009 was released on 7 December 2010.

Tests are typically administered to between 4,500 and 10,000 students in each country.

In 2009 Muckross Park College was chosen to take part in this assessment. Below are the results of the study carried out in the school alongside the results of the national and OECD average:

Note that higher scores on an index indicate higher engagement, achievement, frequency etc. An exception to this is the leisure reading measure, which is the percentage of students reporting that they never read for enjoyment. A negative score on the frequency of online reading measure indicates levels of online reading compared with the OECD average.
